Carson, Los Angeles County
Carson stands on Rancho San Pedro, the first Spanish land grant in California, given to Juan Jose Dominguez in 1784. In 1910 the first major air show in the United States was held on Dominguez Hill, and oil was struck nearby in the 1920s. Refineries and warehouses followed, and Carson incorporated in 1968, late for a city so close to the harbor.
